i don't know if i should shout for joy or be even saddened by this.

i am joyful that in one of those rare times, a photo i took was selected to be featured in an article written for deviantart along with a bunch of others who has also taken photos of the wildfires.

i am saddened that this is a painful reminder, that many californians are at risk of losing their homes to fires and many fire fighters are fighting bravely to save that. the fires raged on. and it is becoming worse every year.

no guts no glory 7/14/08 19:15 |

everyday, i tell myself that if i don't have any guts, i will never be able to try to reach glory ever. i tell this myself when i'm about to back-out of a shoot. i have to do it. i cannot be scared.

And my last song syndrome was?

Lying beside you,
Here in the dark,
Feeling your heart beat, with mine,
Softly you whisper,
You’re so sincere,
How could our love be so blind?
We sailed on together,
We drifted apart,
And here you are by my side,
So now I come to you,
With open arms,
Nothing to hide,
Believe what I say,
So here I am,
With open arms,
Hoping you’ll see,
What your love means to me,
Open arms

Yes, I turned the volume way up, closed my car windows, and “sing” at the top of my lungs. I would say I did a damn good job at hitting the notes (in my freaking dreams).

In other things:
For some reason, Project P seems to be really accelerated. We are fully scheduled for the weekend because of Project P’s learning portion. We do have something scheduled for Project P on Sunday, which will be our first time in tandem. The learning portion of Project P from last Saturday was really awesome. What’s more is that, we are allowed to use it as part of our own portfolio. I can’t wait. I’ll probably publish these sometime tomorrow or Wednesday. (See sample image below). That was a really unnerving session, but for the most part, everyone was cool about it knowing that we are practically newbies. I still need to practice fillers and flashes. I really hate to have clients with overly bright faces and really dark surroundings. I am going to buy a color card though—color balance, exposure balance, white balance, and exposure balance are all keys. Oh yeah, I still have to buy those wireless flash release hot-shoes. I saw a few cheaper Sigma flashes, particularly the EF-500. Compared to the SB-800 or the SB-600, EF-500 costs way less than the SB-800 (more than half cheaper). I really LOVE as well as really HATE the class the other day. Now I can’t see a photo without saying anything about the pose, lighting, angle, annoyances and others. Argghhhh.

Project H also seem to be coming along wonderfully. I am trying so hard for this to surely become good. I really do not want to rush this project since it is a decision that I do not ever want to regret. Besides, the pricing forcast doesn’t seem to be increasing any time soon, so it’s good. Will talk about it more when we get more details when we are close to closing the project. I myself checked a couple online, and I am keeping watch of those listings over the next few weeks.

Project S is halted right now. I am broke to be able to push through with it at this time. The school, however, has a free scheduled use of one of their rooms, so it is a very good substitute for the halted state of the project.

Project M seems to have a good forcast in the coming years. I have thought about this long and hard, and did not know how I could push through with this project. However, when the market dropped, it seems that now is a good time to start. I’ll probably use Project H along with this to be able to accomplish this project. Oh well, we’ll see how time wil work this out.

Earlier today, I made myself one of those cheap instant chow mein. Not realizing it was already spicy, I poured Tapatio into it. I ate it and it was too hot.. I paid no attention to that and just drank my iced green tea. I kept eating it as well as drinking the green tea. Next thing I knew, I was shivering like shit.. I feel a little better now though. The painful burping helped, as well as the numerous trips to the men’s room to relieve my bladder.

Bridal Shoot 7/13/08 22:46 |

tep and i did a shoot yesterday at school from 9am to 12noon. i still have not completed post production editing, and today, there's another shoot that i still need to do.

here's a sample of the bridal shoot:

"the bride" - tri-community photography program.

i know, it still needs more post-production work. i did learned more about trying to make colors accurate--visually and technically. well, i still need to finish my bachelor's.

argh.

i was looking at interesting (read: porn) photos just a few minutes ago, and was not turned on.

instead:
1. just a little photoshop...
2. jeez, what happened to your light?
3. if she can just turn a little to the left...
4. take off the glasses damnit, or have the photographer shoot in ambient light
5. ur supposed to be slutty, what's with the freaking cheshire cat grin?
6. that scratch on the wall annoys me photoshop it.
7. at least don't over compress your jpegs, at least to the point that we don't see artefacts
8. too much flash
9. i know this photo is a porn photo, why is the aquarium in focus?
10. please erase that bright stuff in the back, it's annoying.
11. arms away from the body please
12. 3/4 please
13. need filler
14. this would have been nice at f/11
15. the exposure looks nice, but i can't see stubble--lighting is too much
16. halo effect is off
17. photoshop the eyebags
18. there's no balance in the photo
19. i know this was not an artsy photo about tragic lipstick on teeth
20. her pose is unnatural, looks like somebody working in a circus--only naked.
21. what's with the shy pose? it needs to be slutty or dead-ma look for it to have that erotic feel.
22. there's a white hair in your blonde head (come on, jap porn chicks has raven black bushes and you see the even coloring!)
23. macrophotography, when you are taking a photo really close to a butterfly, make sure you use lower aperture to get the entire focus (i'm not talking about the insect).

this is going to be a long week.

at least i think i know more about photography than years ago.

Some Class Shots 23:13 |

This has been a really interesting week. I really felt good with the outcome of the class:

The model is a volunteer whom from what it appears, everybody already knows (well, except us). Her name is Sunny (sp?) and she knows how to pose. I have taken more than 30 photos and these are my favorites. Stephanie took about a dozen. I took more because I was experimenting with ambient lighting. I really learned a lot, now I know what a grey card is for, a density/light meter is for, triggers and a bunch of other elements. Check out the photos:

First Image was taken with ambient light at a really slow shutter speed (i'm happy that it's still sharp), and it is coupled with HDR editing and a little color remix:

This image was taken in-studio with the studio flashes-awesome!

This image was taken outside the school with studio flash brought outside.

Power User Kuno 6/29/08 22:22 |

A few weeks ago, I received an email from Yahoo, letting me know that I have become a power-user. According to that, I would have more priority in transactions with Yahoo--I still have to see that.

I do like the fact that I have bragging rights, I had my email since 2000 with Yahoo. Eight friggin years! (My other active email has been with Yahoo since 1998, and interestingly enough, I am not a "power user" under that account. oh well.

photography and the "project" are all going well. we have a project for this saturday, but I have yet to contact Ria. I hope she's good for July 5. =) Can't wait, just so excited.

the other "project," well, is more like a waiting game. we'll see how that goes as well. don't really want to jinx it. (same with the project mentioned above, don't want to jinx it).

HDR Sample 2 22:12 |

Another HDR attempt. waaaaaaaaaaaaaa. crazy. i could still not figure out the colors!

HDR Sample 6/27/08 08:00 |

The two images below is edited differently. The first is the HDR Manual Process (Adobe Photoshop CS3's HDR Merge feature is weak), and the second a simple ACR Processing. I needed to practice more on the color adjustment because the top image looks like that from a Harry Potter scene. In any case, the top portion has greater detail and color range compared to the image in the bottom, also noticeable is the highlights being more visible under HDR process.

HDR has two images merged (Under Exposed + Over Exposed Image), ACR has only one with a "correct exposure."

See for yourself:
